WHY DO ALCOHOLICS DENY THEIR PROBLEMS?, Rehabilitation, drug rehab, alcohol rehab, de addiction, Heroin, Cocaine -

WHY DO ALCOHOLICS DENY THEIR PROBLEMS?(Previously published in The Hindu)Leading medical authorities such as WHO (World Health Organization) and the American Medical Association now recognize alcoholism as a disease, with definite and predictable symptoms.Alcoholics Anonymous defines alcoholism as 'cunning, baffling, powerful'.What makes the disease so baffling is the typical symptom of denial in an alcoholic. Ask an alcoholic if he has a problem with drinking, and he will most often deny, justify or evade the issue.Drinking is an accepted behaviour in society. Unfortunately, in the case of two out of ten persons who drink, alcohol slowly deviates from a harmless to a devastating activity....

Late in the afternoon, facing a second straight sleep-deprived night in a room where tiny IVs hung off my infant son...

Why The Irish Drink: Is Ireland A Country of Alcoholics Or An Alcoholic Country, An American in Dublin

Why The Irish Drink: Is Ireland A Country of Alcoholics Or An Alcoholic CountryThe world knows Ireland as a country of pubs, and happy, hard working, hard drinking folk.  Right, wrong, or indifferent, that’s the world’s impression, and it’s not entirely undeserved.  In fact it’s often a proudly displayed badge of honor for the Irish.  You’d think that after two years, I’d have some notion of what’s behind the stereotype. It’s nobody’s business but our own...
